The Buddha said that offering lights before the Buddha is a quick path to liberation. Mention of this appears in numerous Buddhist scriptures. Great Bodhisattva’s Scriptural Basket Sutra states that if we light hundreds and thousands of lamps, our negative karma will depart. Avatamsaka Sutra states that the lamp of wisdom dispels all darkness. Many sutras explain that lighting lamps before Buddha can eliminate negative karma and destroy all darkness.
The Buddha said that whoever offers lamps will accumulate boundless fortune and blessings which can only be grasped by the Buddha. What benefits will offering lamps before Buddha bring us? Grandmaster JinBodhi once taught us this: The Medicine Buddha in The Medicine Buddha Sutra states that whenever a significant problem occurs, light lamps of seven colors for 49 days and the problem will be resolved.
